    I just installed a cb in a 09

    i used a new mount with a Francis 4.5ft

when I put it on without a ground wire my swr was just over 2.1

and I was getting out about 1.5 miles

i put a ground wire on that connected to the factory ground strap

and my swr dropped way down (these readings were taken off of the
built in meter on a cobra 29)

But now i am not getting out at all

    Any ideas?

I am guessing he hooked the other end of the wire to the antenna hot as he does not specify with clarity. He only states "on that". This would explain the no distance comment. As well it explains the internal meter zero, ohms law would indicate a dead short on the coax gives zero volts for the meter to work with. Remember how the internal meter circuit is configured. He needs to connect the antenna end to the bracket itself not the hardware in the center.

I connected the ground wire from the new antenna mount to the current mount where the original ground strap is

This does sound like what is happening though because my swr seems very low but the signal is not going anywhere.
