Experience with YRC ( includes YRC, New Penn, USF Reddaway and Holland

The economy will get worse before it gets better. We need a president who can bring us out of this economic problem. For a while I thought it was picking up again as I was working 50+ hours a week, crazy pickups and deliveries and noticing a lot more trucks on the road which is usually a good sign. Yesterday was a good day for us, I had 16 stops altogether. Today when I got in at 745 the dock guys were just walking around hanging out, they said it was a SLOW day. I got my punch card and so did the guy below me. This week im doing the CT route(Greenwich, Stamford, Darien) its a straight truck which im not a fan of, but need the paycheck. I get my bills and see I have 7 stops, 8 bills. Two of them being the street right next to our terminal. When that happens you KNOW its slow. I had nothing for stamford which is a shock as stamford is HUGE. So pretty much everything was close together and was done by 1:30. I went back to the yard to pick up more freight for the town the terminal is in and the next town over. 2 bills. Then I had to fairly close pickups.

Hope I can work this week. Money is extremely tight right now as I havent really gotten to work for two weeks.

Dont think my dads friend was able to get me in. Heard nothing yet, probly nothing available. Until then I will be here

 

Sorry to hear about that job. Hope it picks up out there for you. Money is tight for me too but my wife makes good money so it off sets it. Actually my job is minimum wage compared to her lol. She'll make more than 3x what I'll make this year!

 

i have been getting a little tired of the 8/10 10/12 schedule that yrc runs on. and also the three lay down rule for getting a 48 hr break. i can see now how somebody would make alot of money here,but i don't want to live at this place.....

There's an old saying at the now former Roadway Express. " Your heart may belong to your wife but, your ### belongs in the drivers seat". In other words when you come to work here at YRC Freight they will work you 70 hours a week if you allow them to. Remember one thing, make your log book work in your favor. If you want the weekend off start logging heavy early in the week and by Friday you'll be outta hours and not available for work. It's a cold harsh reality of working here. That's why I always laugh when a guy says "lazy union drivers". I've logged more miles in a union truck than I ever did in a nonunion truck

 

I agree, all my friends in the non-union companies all say we are a bunch of lazy worthless union workers. and al we do is milk the clock. Sure there are guys who do that but thats EVERY JOB. Yes we stay out longer as YRC would rather keep their guys they have able to work and make sure everything is delivered and Picked up. At CWF one your got close to your 8 hours they would turn you around or come get you and have someone else finish your route... All just to avoid paying overtime

 

Well, I'm still loving this job. Making good moolah too. Been spending alot too. lol But, been buying OTR creature comforts, & I'm almost done. Just spent $2500.00 on a laptop. lol But, I got what I want.

 

Just saw a job opening in the area I live in (ok so it's within walking distance) I've got experience but don't have dbl/trpl endorsement and te job is for city P/D. I need to clear atleast $600 a week. Seeing as gas money doesn't matter since I can walk and it is a small location any opinions if it's worth switching? I've worked union before and the pay was good so no gripes with that but all I keep hearing is how YRC is going to go bankrupt (kind of thinking its just guys that hate unions spreading rumors) Any opinions would be helpfull. Have Haz-Mat, OSHA Forklift certified, and don't mind the work as I'm still young and the last job I had was as a union laborer. I also get that you start at the bottom which is fine. Any input would help

 

Remember, my opinion is based on just 2 months, so, I really shouldn't give much advise. Also, I am a Linehauler. ACH1130 works PnD.
