Just got my cdl, I waited a year. The reason was to work in the oil field because that's where the money is, right? Are people still making money driving in the oil fields? Or should I just lease with my company? Trainers here also make 8-10k a.month, so that's another option. I don't know where to work, but I don't like driving otr all over the country, and I want to make as much money as I can. So what are my options?
Stay away from leasing as a new driver. Learn the ropes and get a few years experience first. North Dakota and Texas is where the oil fields are hiring. You can make more in North Dakota but will pay more for housing and the climate is brutal.
I work in north dakota. Housing isn't as bad as everyone says. My company rents me a bunk in a double wide with washer and dryer and cable for $250 a month. Winters are cold here but its not the tundra its rumored to be. Most days last winter were very tolerable.
Where are trainers making 8-10k a month? I would try to be a trainer over there because you aren't going to make anything near that in the oilfields.
the guy apparently can't see anything other then benjamins in his eye. he hasn't learned to properly distinguish between MAKING. and EARNING. nor has he figures out that that kind of money comes with a huge price tag that will virtually leave him with nothing.
Lots of hands show up here with big dreams, expect to jump right to the top.It doesnt work that way ya earn yer way up . the conditions can be very challenging. lots of newbies dont cut the mustard and head home .
What parts of Texas are hiring for oil work? I am thinking of moving to the Houston/Galveston Area. Is there any kind of special training or type of hauling the oilfields are looking for?
Its a cdl mill starter company that pays their trainers very well. I talked to a few trainers already, they are all making very good money. Minimum 6k a month but that is very rare. Usually 8-10k is the norm. Trainers have to lease or owner-op. I thought about it, but sometimes I just hate working with people, although i enjoy helping people. Newbies will also mess up ur truck alot faster. And leasing can be stressful. So I don't know what to do right now. I was planning to work for my company only a few more months and go to the oil fields. But there are options to make money at my company, too. So what do u guys think? Can I make 6-8k a month in the oil fields? If money is good in the oil fields then that's where I plan to go. Driving local and home every night sounds better to me than going OTR as a trainer. But, I also want to make good money. So what would u guys do?
