Isn't there a law on the books where an employer as big as they are need to inform their workers at least 60 days in advance of their intent to close up shop?

Had one blow by me going south on 95 in Florida today. Guess he was heading to the house and going to make them play find the truck.

talked to one of those guys a couple of months ago and he seemed pretty happy. Sucks for all involved hope they can get home and getting rolling somewhere else quickly.

    The letter appears to state:

This is to notify you that, due to unforeseeable and dramatic changes in business circumstances beyond its control, New Century Transportation Inc., (“NCT” or the “Company”) expects that it will permanently shut down its operations at all of its facilities, including the facility located at 45 East Park Drive, Westhapmpton, New Jersey and will terminate all its employees.

The unforeseeable need to shut down operations arose when NCT’s leader recently and unexpectedly declined to continue finding regular business (illegible). NCT immediately took steps to seek financing and other alternatives, including a sale of all or part of the company, and in order to continue its pertains, but to date, its efforts have been unsuccessful.

NCT will file for relief under Chapter 7 of the United States Bankruptcy Code. NCT reasonably believes that it could not provide earlier or advanced notice of the shutdown, because such advanced notice would have (illegible) NCT’s ability to secure alternative finances of a sale of the company. The following information is provided to you in accordance with the provision of the Worker Adjustments and Retaining Notification Act (the “WARN Act”) and the New Jersey Millville Dallas Airmotive Plant Job Loss Notification Act.

    That's LENDER, FUNDING and OPERATIONS.

Apparently they've been running on borrowed cash, and the bank wasn't handing them any more.

Plus I saw a guy at the window from Western Freightways (owned by NCT) still doing pickups. If you work for Western I would high tail it home because if the parent company is done so are the affiliates.

I cannot answer this---BUT if there is--as big as the Teamsters are--when Cornflakes did this to their drivers--I figure they would have filed a pretty big suit--among other things--
BUT I personally know CF did it this way--because for the 1st time in about 30 years(at the time) I picked up hitchhikers(kinda)--there were 3 teams(two chicago-1 Dallas) at Rip offs in barstow trying to
get to the airport to get home--and I piled all 6 of em(had a w9 studio at time)and there stuff in my wagon--and took em down the hill to ONTARIO TA--couldnt figure how to get them and semi--into ontario airport--so the grabbed a cab a TS..
was kinda funny to see 4 big guys on my couch--and 2 smaller--sharing the passenger seat--and the smallest--just slammed himself on the floor of the bunk as I crossed Cajon---LOL

This is not true. He sold both companies long before the financial troubles started and the new owners are the one that ran these businesses into the ground.
