They are all just nuts and bolts, some a little more expensive than others. I would look for something in the pre 04 age range and look it over well. Try to find something that's been owned by the same guy for a while and took care of it. Seriously consider a sleeper even if it is a small flattop. I always preferred them anyways.

I've been thinking the same thing as you. Toying with the idea of a daycab to do some local work around here, but have concerns about what to do with the truck if the local work dries up.

Wondering if it might be a good option to get a daycab version of something with a removable sleeper. Thinking of something like a 379 with enough wheelbase to fit a sleeper, then I could always retrofit a used Unibilt for what I think wouldn't be all that much money, if I ever needed to start taking it farther from home.

No idea how good of an idea it would be in the real world, but it seems that having more options would always be better.

Freight shaker is the best.....you break down you can find a freightliner n e where.....petes are over priced and small on the inside. ...unless u get the 387 or 587....kw are small and over priced unless u get the studio sleeper....volvo are nice but they burn a ton of fuel....

Yeah, it works the same as if someone wanted to get a very long WB truck/shorter trailer ... it might work for someone with a big enough customer base that such a truck will always have a use, but much of the time it won't be appropriate for the job - a one truck show needs to be flexible in the beginning stages - it is hard enough to survive already out here

An "investment", I would assume you aren't considering those throw-away fleet trucks.
That pretty much leaves a conventional Pete or KW.
