Is it worth trying for her cdl

At about 23 or 25 years of age I was told insur. rates go down for young truck drivers, that would let everything fall off Drivers Lic. and would be be less than sending her off to collage for 4yrs.

 

Do you think if you were home more she might have been a little easier? Trucking is surely hard on family life. Best in your futures.

 

Lol sorry for the confusion but I'm a new truck driver. I may have grown up around them but never drove one until this past June. I always dreamed of driving but when I had my daughter I had something much more pressing to do. Raising my kids. I gave up my dream until both my kids were old enough.

 

Well maybe you can take her on the road with you after you are off probation, usually you can't have riders until that time period is up. She can learn along the way, road mapping, route solution, where to stop for breaks, etc. Would be a help to you also. It won't bring anymore money into the house is all, but it could speed up the process of getting on the road each run. This is one good way to see if she would really like going on the road or not.

 

She is CR England/Western Express material. The OP did say he doesn't want her going to a junk company though. Perhaps have her consider another career path, like a nurse for example?

 

Thanks NavigatorWife. That's a good idea. My company says 90 days after going solo I can have passengers. I don't think that's long enough so maybe next summer if I feel comfortable enough. That would be a great way of showing her what it's like otr without letting her behind the wheel.

 

If nothing she will get to see what the hours are like, the flip-flop driving shifts, the sitting and waiting all day for a load and then as soon as you think it is time for bed again the load shows up and you have to leave.

You will be hitting on winter weather here pretty soon, if not already, so that will be enough challenge for you to work with.
