Looking to buy a used Eaton 18 spd. Trans is out of the truck on the ground. When you put the shifter in gear, the output shaft will still turn. Is this normal???

I should hope so. No different than if you were coasting in gear. Just as long as the input shaft turns at the same time while in gear.

Not sure what you mean. The output should turn regardless if the trans is in neutral or a gear. If the output turns when you spin the input and your in neutral, it could possibly be an issue. Could also just be a little bit of drag.

I should add that if the transmission is in the truck then no you won't be able to turn the output shaft when in gear because you will be trying to turn the engine over as well.

Confusing! Get someone who knows what they are looking at to knock the top off. Not much of the back section can be seen but that gets the pig out of the poke. It maybe possible to turn the input without the output turning when the shift lever is in gear because there is no air to hold the range and deep reduction engaged. I like the new look Northern. Did you get the frame finished?
