I am looking at getting a new truck and need some advise on which truck is going to be better with fuel mileage and reliability. I drive reefer regionally 600 miles a day in pa. I am loaded 300 and empty 300 miles per trip. The 07 peterbuilt 387 has a c15 435 no dpf with 13 speed and 3.55 rears and 22.5 lp tires. The 09 387 has isx 450 with dpf and 10 speed with 3.55 rears and 22.5 lp super singles. Both trucks have apu. Both trucks have the same monthly payment but the 07 has a 10 month shorted term to pay off. Thanks any advice would be appreciated.
I hear a dpf can be troublesome. Since you aren't going to CA, the non dpf might be the way to go. It seems the cat acert seems to be dependable. I would take the '07. Good luck.
I also hear that the 08 to 09 are the worst but I don't have a problem with keeping up with cleaning of the egr system and dpf if I can get better fuel milage. I also heard that the 07 c15 is one of bad cats but do not know for sure. A friend has on he has problem with leaks and can only get 6.4 empty.
The 07 has a 13 which helps on hills. the 3.55s are also decent but I prefer 3.70s because they are more versatile. 07's aren't that bad. Check the serial number on it. That will tell you if its an emissions motor or not. I would need to find the number that specifies this. When i find it I will post it. Early 07 is good, late 07 is bad. If it was me between these two I would take the 07. You should get atleast 6.5 loaded depending upon how you run. I get that in my driving style which is fast and my loads are heavy.
SDP is the serial prefix to worry about on that motor. That will tell you it has a DPF/CGI emission garbage set up. NXS is PRE DPF & the route to go if all else is equal in terms of the remaining parts of the truck are good vs the 2009.
I would definitely go with the 2007 but depending on how it was specd when new it may have a diesel catalytic converter on it my 2006 387 c-15 did we had two 07 379's that had them also. Very easy to remove and replace with a piece of pipe.
