So I’m self employed and making my own schedule and taking some much needed road trips to very cool places such as Colorado. But I’ve been using the 10 day forecast from the national weather service as most weather apps use that same info.

But when I got to Colorado to go skiing a warm front instead came through and the ski slops turned to slurpees. So we adjusted and went horseback riding and zip lining instead.

Now I’ve got my eye on the weather forecast of my hometown of Waynesboro,Virginia wanting to go and do some camping in the National Park, and it’s much warmer there today then predicted 10 days ago.

So from what I can tell they are fairly accurate with the weather 3-4 days.

After that it seems like guesswork. I’ve seen documentaries as to how they use mathematics with the pressure and so forth to predict long term. But it seems warm fronts and cold fronts can come unexpectedly so planning a camping trip seems tougher then it should be, and in Appalachia in the spring Mother Nature seems to have ideas of her own.

The perfect camping weather is 63-72 during the day and no lower than 50 at night.

Do any of you have any experience or opinion on this ? Have the weather apps ever screwed you over when making a long run across country?

The 10 day forecast changes every day.
The most accurate is 24 hours. Or the next day.

If the weather is steady like summertime for instance. Sunny skies would be accurate. Temps might change though.

Storm season. 10 days might be good then tomorrow they're expecting a storm the next day or two. Or whatever.

Last month. A warming trend was forecast but it stayed cold for 2 sttaight weeks. And a 2 day snowstorm lasted 5 days.

    10 day =impossible.
Maybe for states like South or North Dakota where nothing really crazy going on.
3 days that's max you can count on.

I'd say it's accurate....they can detect storms from pretty far out.....they don't miss either. For some reason people still think they do.

It Was 21:23 and that meant something, somewhere.

Every time we are predicted to get a huge blizzard and the weatherman talks about it for days we don't get hardly anything. Then when a dusting is expected we get pounded. Weather is an educated bet at best

A while back in CO a storm front came through that no one saw in advance.
It changed from sunny and warm to snow in just a few hours, many inches of snow.

Sometimes even the 3 day forecasts are not so good.

The weather report…. It’s always better or worse than they say it will be… you just have to decide which side of that your route is on…

10 days out ? That's too far out. 1-2 or 1-3 maybe. The TV weather girl/guy here always apoligizes after their prediction didn't come true, They say, the mountains shielded the clouds etc blah-blah-blah
