I was wondering if any of you guys that are driving a similar engine (I drive a 2003 Volvo 670 with a Cummins ISX) are experiencing a similar issue : the truck I drive gets up to 210 degrees quick ..it stays there but I believe it should run a bit cooler ? What is normal for this engine ..I was told that ISX runs hotter because it has the EGR valve set up for emissions purposes. Also, when pulling heavy loads it seems that I have to refill coolant too often ..like 1/2 Gal every 1 k miles ? Any suggestions ?Thanks
I dont see any coolant leaks and no water in the oil either . No white smoke at all....so where is at that coolant goin' ?
we had a truck once that used a little coolant. not sure how much over how many miles, but it was the rings on the pistons. they only found it after they dropped the oil pan and did a pressure check. I seriously hope that is not your problem. we have also had trucks that have small leaks from hoses, that may be dripping on exhaust, so they are hard to find. doing a pressure check may help find the problem good luck
internal coolant loss removed the charge air pipe from the intake and look inside with a flashlight to see if the egr cooler is leaking and sending coolant around to the intake. small leaks can be extremely hard to find. but if it is leaking you will see the intake wet.
Company Volo I was driving would use a gallon coolant to east coast from Ohio and gallon on return trip Found out it was blowing out the stack. Egr valve needed replaced.
