79,840 and only an 1/8 of a tank!

    I'm heading from Florida to New Jersey and don't want to fuel every 150 miles.. what's the heaviest they'll let me get away with?

    I'm gonna guess 80,000lbs is gonna be what they let you get away with, but then again I'm new.

    This is why you should know what your truck weighs empty that way you know how much you can haul. If you know about what your truck gets mpg wise you can get figure out the miles from the truck stop to the scale figure out about how much fuel you are gonna burn then fuel accordingly. It's a pain but hopefully you learned your lesson. Be safe

    Some of the best advice I was ever given was to fill my truck up empty full of gear and get on a CAT scale so I had a scale ticket of my truck full of fuel with all of my axle weights printed out so I knew exactly how much weight I could put on the deck and how much weight over my axles.

    Never pick up a load on empty fuel tanks. I learned this the hard way once.

    9 cars.. and the customers overloaded their trunks. Loads pay per unit so leaving one off is $400

    You'd pay a lot more than $400 in fines during the trip, no to mention the worry and stress.

    Put it into perspective, and make the right choice.

    Call some of the owners & ask if they want to pay the overweight fines or want you to unload some luggage.
