    2015 Freightliner M2 112. 180k miles on her.

This truck already had the EGR Cooler replace 2 years ago. Maybe around 120k miles or so. Before I worked for the company. Other driver said is was spewing Coolant.

CEL on now. Codes EGR Cooler....

I spoke with another Diesel mechanic who said the EGR system most likely needs decarbonized (I think that's what he called it) and also have the DPF cleaned out.

    What say you ?

Would cleaning out the EGR and DPF give the truck more power ?

I agree. EGR cooler is updated. After update there is usually no issues. Severe idle time can become clogged.

EGR ports to flow sensor become clogged. R&I Intake manifold for thorough cleaning, along with the valve and crossover pipe.

I base DPF cleanings on regen history, frequency and pressure.

    Codes?

I don't know the numbers. Our shop and the other Mechanic I talked with just said.... EGR Cooler.

How hard is it to clean out the DPF ? Our shop sends them out somewhere to be cleaned. Our truck will be Out of Service for 2 days. We can't lose a truck for 2 days right now.

Does the EGR get clogged up pretty fast ? The Mechanic told me the truck will eventually enter Limp Home mode or something like that.

    IIRC, it showed CODE 31.

Would cleaning just the DPF clear the Code ?

The Shop we use is incompetent (IMHO) and probably doesn't know how to decarbonize all the parts/systems you listed. I'm going to talk with my Manager and try to talk him into just sending the truck to the Freightliner Dealer to repair it.

Code 31 means nothing to me. Get Insite printouts so I can see what your dealing with. Fault codes and regen history.

We take those DPH units to a facility to be cleaned out. They have a high heat bake unit and a high pressure air system to blow them out. I thank that is about a 6 or 8 hour deal.
If you cannot afford the down time you could buy another cartridge and just swap them out.
