I'm in the flatbed division and I know it starts out at .45 per mile with 3000 mile weeks being pretty common for me at least. I think but could be wrong that their van/reefer division starts at .40 per mile and their miles are good as well. They also have a decent accessorial pay that helps a lot too. Also an easily achievable .02 quarterly bonus. Give them a call. Their recruiters are honest believe it or not.
It’s understandable. Many are not past sitting at home unemployed spending the last of the $3,000 they won on a scratch off ticket, then developing early signs of a potentially serious health issue, then running out and going back to work for any outfit that provides health insurance day 1 then going to the doctor their first home time arrival.
I wouldn't wait 90 days. Wife is pregnant. Couple kids needs vaccinations. Probably need a root canal. Go in and DEMAND healthcare or tell them to pound sand.
People have posted that TMC is a good company, but they are saying benefits 'start right away after the first year.' Haha. That's MUCH longer than other companies.
If you need serious health care when you are starting, you are probably too sick to be doing this job. I go to the doctor for one reason only. I have high blood pressure, and there are federal regulations. I go once a year to renew my med, but that is all I go in for. And because of the deductible with the great health insurance, I still have to pay for it. What a waste of money, because the meds would not cost much more if I had no insurance at all. That's ObamaCare for you. Complaining over 30 or 60 or 90 days before you can suck off it? What is the point if you have even decent health?
Health insurance isn't something you buy for an illness or injury that has already happened, it's there to protect your assets from the high cost of injury and illness that hasn't happened yet. Living healthy and being lucky is no excuse to be without insurance, just as you wouldn't (or shouldn't) let your home be uninsured against a fire because you're being careful and take good care of your house..
Its not just health care benefits. In no way would I want to have to wait an entire year to start a 401(K). The benefit is that important, saving thousands in taxes, and that compounds tax excempt over time, whether the company matches it or not. I would be contributing to the max. From what I keep reading, after one year, that's when drivers have the experience to move on to a better job for themselves. So what if the next company says you must a year with THEM before starting a 401(K)? Now you're two years in without getting one started. If the 401(K) is a major reason why you're driving it to begin with, you wonder why other benefits like health care kick in a lot earlier, especially if they aren't matching any portion of your contribution - no real skin off their back. And what % of the health insurance premium do most trucking companies make you pay? How much is the deductible each year? Some drivers may be better off on the Obamacare exchange, especially in that first year when income is peanuts due to the company getting you your CDL and now makes you complete a year.
