We are overhauling a 1997 VE D12 370 VT or "B" engine. Did not need pistons but found new sleeves and rings. Put the engine together, ran it and oil came out the exhaust manifold. We tore it down again. We are wondering if the rings we installed were the right ones. They were for a "D" engine. So, can rings from a D engine fit a B engine. We also found that the valve guides were bad and replaced them. We hate to put it all together again only to have the oil leakage. The pistons on both engines look the same, but the D engine piston # is 131KB8 while the B engine piston # is 131KB2. Thank you for your help.

Rings take time to break in.

Thank you for your reply. We did follow an old mechanic that said start the truck and put it under a 60-70% load. The rings should seat themselves. We did that and they did. The truck is running now.

Valve guides being bad would push lots of oil into exhaust.
    Glad you got it sorted.
