99 topkick c5500 engine scanner

    can anyone tell me what kind of scan tool I need for a 99 topkick with a cat 3126 engine. it has a obll plug but my scanner didn't work. im hoping to get something like a scangauge so I can monitor mpg and trip milage. thanks

    There are J1850 and J1939 wires there, u can use. I made my own OBD-II to Deutch-9 adapter. Also u can find Xat Diagnostic Link adapter under hood. If Cat engine is flashed as highway ap[plication caterpillar datalink is compatible with J1587/1708
