The Black Duffel has all of my clothes in it (9 days worth) + 2 of my favorite movies, and my bible.

Laptop Backpack has my laptop and misc "office supplies" 2 pairs of work gloves and my flashlight.

The Laundry Bag has all of my bedding (sheets, blanket, & pillow) and 2 towels. I will empty it as soon as I arrive and make my bed.

The smaller duffel bag has food and snacks for 3 days, laundry soap, dish soap, plastic spoons & forks, and my toiletries.

I'm not going to have my own transportation and going to have to rely on others or walking to the store so that's why I'm bringing food for 3 days. I am being dropped off by my wife so I don't have to worry about greyhound and their bag issues. Worst case scenario I had to take a bus to home or to orientation I could throw the bedding away fold up laundry bag and the small duffel and fit them into the large duffel.

Is this to much or ok? Could I do the same thing when I go OTR with my trainer minus the food perhaps? The small duffel will be used to go back and forth from the shower with my change of clothes and towel and toiletries once on the road but when not in use i will fold it up and put in the large duffel. Once I get into the truck with my trainer the laundry bag would be a non issue because the bedding would be quickly used to make my bed. So really I would just have the duffel and laptop bag in the way on the training rig.

:biggrin_25514:Does this CDL school have accommodations, or are you staying in a motel? You're probably looking at 5-8 weeks of training before you go out with a trainer.:biggrin_25514:

Very well prepared in my humble opinion for the CDL learning school portion. Call me crazy but I would add a map of roads and buy a mini truck stop guide found in most truck stops.

When you go out with your trainer, limit it to the duffle and backpack if you can fit your bedding in it. If you do not like him or her and you need to get off, you do not want to be stuck carrying a lot. Which company are you going with???

That might be OK for class, but that is a lot of baggage to go on a truck. There will be two of you on it and the trainer (his truck) will have what he needs and wants. Where will you store all of those bags? Two bags packed well (military rolled) would be better. If it was my truck I would say you are going to have to condense those down. I deployed twice and was gone a year each time and did not have 4 bags.

And you took that many SMALL BAGS WHY? Go Here,http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...ivers/16652-packing-list-for-students-17.html Page 17 post #168 and add a FEW things that you might need!

BUT remember If it doesn't fit in the one bag you don't need it until you have your own truck! If you had to leave school with no transportation of your own as I have pushed for a long time meaning do not take a bus or plane but drive yourself. You get on the bus or plane then everything over 1 checked bag is an additional $50 out of someones pocket! Most likely yours!

What happens if you went straight from school to a job? Where do you think you're going to put all of that crapola you have ? It's NOT your truck you'll be training in but someone elses HOME! You're a guest! You'll be moving all that stuff around so you can sleep or move! There is NOT that much storage for a trainee!

I guess from traveling most of my life from age 5 (Navy brat) I've learned how to pack and what is needed! I look at some of the junk people think they can't live without and have to laugh wondering what would happen if they had to walk more than 100 yards with this stuff! I went to Wal-Mart.com to look and it seems that I need to hang on to the bag I have as they don't carry this monster any more! Mine is 36"Lx18"Hx18"W and I paid $20 for it maybe 10 years ago when my pretty pink/mauve ski bag that make this one look sickly gave up the ghost from a Flight and fell apart!

These are just a few but they're bigger and there are a few that have wheels. These are the main bags for most of your clothing and hygiene stuff. You need to put the hygiene stuff in a "ditty" bag as we called it in the Army.
Then a carry on bag for other stuff. My laptop and other things I'll need if I fly is in this bag. I NEVER do a Greyhound as that's worse than getting stuck with a hygiene challenged co driver! You'll be stuck with a bus load of them who haven't showered in a few days and I'll lay odds half of them smoke so you have to put up with that rank arsed odor also! But me, I won't even take transportation as I'll drive my self either in my P/U or on the bike and yes I can put both of my bags on the bike but I've been riding a long time and it's not a problem with a few bungee cords! Take you own transportation to work!

Here are a few of the bags that Wally World has and you can go to Bass Pro and have a heart attack at those prices but these give you an idea of what you can live with for the school and training. Get used to what you NEED to live with and forget the luxuries! The best size you could get if you found it would be tha same size as a military duffel but with the side or top opening as trying to get your daily crapola out of a military duffel is a PITA! You'll be unpacking that thing every day! I do not reccomend your left over military equipment! Trust me!

    Good Luck!

I appreciate the advice but honestly I'm under the impression that the last two posters just looked at the picture without reading. I said on the trainers truck it would be just two bags (black duffel & laptop) in training after I made the bed with the bedding stuff (yes I would carry my bedding on to the truck in the laundry bag). The smaller duffel would be folded up inside the bigger one and used only to carry a change of clothes and toiletries back and forth from the truck.

Wow! I didn't have that much stuff in my own truck! Just giving you a hard time! Your trainer is probably not going to let you take that stuff with you. One duffel bag should do you. Call ahead to your company and see if they have a locker where you can leave all that when you go with your trainer.
