hey guys i have another question. i had a couple felonies when i was younger in 97 and 99. they were adjudicated withheld which i believe is not considered a conviction. i have had all my rights restored to me and am currently a registered voter. i have been arrest free since 1999 and plan to keep it that way as i cut ties with all the people who i used to associate with. these charges still show up on a background check but i was told back in 1999 by the probation officer not to put that i was ever convicted of a felony. so with that said will i be allowed to enter canada. thanks for the help.
this is a tough one to answer. suppose, just suppose you have some sort of "run-in" with any police officer up there, like from an accident. then they do a check on you. its highly plausable that something "might" show up from your past. what might happen from that point, i wouldn't know. the probation officer must think that its as easy as he says it is.......... i would "play it safe" and try to find a job that doesn't have any canadian runs/deliveries/pick-ups.........
pro1driver i think you are right. i am going with trans am trucking. i know for a fact they have no forced dispatch into nyc but not quite sure about canada. ill have to ask them about that. thanks for your help bud and be safe.
By law you can't go into Canada even if you have been charged with a missdeameaner(You can, you just can't leave--they will detain you!)You don't want to chance it anyway. In Canada being in arrears on your child support is a felony--and they have been known to charge Americans with that one. Under Canadian law they can try and convict you of any charges you have (currently or prior) in the US. If you have an A.J. that means to them:--you haven't been tried. It's actually very easy to get into Canada, the hard part is on your way out--thats when they get you! Most companies ask you if you can run Canada, and if you can't--that's okay they have other people that can. You don't want Canadian runs anyway--going in and out of customs-and the amount of paperwork take hours. Companies don't pay any-more for those hours--it's just wasted time for you that you could have spent in an American truck stop. I've met several drivers that qualified to go to Canada that after a couple runs they refused to go again! It's not worth the time or paperwork! Most companies will hire you anyway even if you don't qualify for Canada. When they ask--they're just hopefull that you qualify--most people don't. If you have any criminal charges no-matter what the adjudification--Don't even try to go to Canada! You don't know what they can do to you! You don't want to find out the hard way. You could actually end-up in jail there for something in the US.
I've read somewhere that Canada will arrest you and confiscate the truck and trailer if your caught driving in canada with a felony conviction. So if you do get a job driving for a company, they wouldnt send you there anyway as long as they know that you have a felony because they could lose their truck, trailer, and their shipment and possibly that account.
