Have you ever wondered how one driver can be happy and one can be so mad ,you are afraid to talk to him.And they both may be driveing for the same company? Well your first reaction is this guy is a crybaby(which has happened) But sometimes the dirty word is said (DISPATCH) Well after 14+ years More than one time a trucker called about another load,oh i say half through the load he just docked a hour ago(good to be on your toes?). The load was a floor load of peaches(which was heavy and time consumeing) Well the dispatch told him to pick up a load for a 3pm appt, the guy said noway! I talked to the company and said the trucker was late getting in the dock . But us only have 2 reg receivers and 1 (lazy ) standby we where running behind so it wasnt his fault. I explained without traffic it would take near 4 hours,it being 2pm and the load wasnt getting done before 4:00pm ,there was no way. The dispatch agreed, but the following week the same driver came back and said by me going back to my companys office the buyer called the broker and witheverything documated,he was being treated better(for how long i dont know) So all i can say their are many cheifs but not enough indians, but honestly isnt that how it is anywhere. So my advice is to make sure you have the receiver write all details from arriveing on time ,to it not being a straight off load. When you do all this writeing for a driver or get a call from the broker ,and stand by that driver. They are a changed man ,they want to go there and are pleasent.I know by just doing that for the drivers ,we took care of each other. Meaning even though we had no slip sheet machine ,the trucker would put dawn dishwashing liquid on my forks . It just slid under the cardboard(lmfao) we done it for $100 and spit the cash.(lumpers $200!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) $50.00 FOR 45MINUTES work seems good to me,hell the lumpers even tried to say i was doing it on company time. But the manager seen i was clocked out and told the scammer i mean lumper i was in the right. So if you see a pissed off at a driver 50% could be not because of himself ,it could be spreading himself to thin. Brokers ,receiveing, shipping, dispatch, and the all the bosses. So if one seems hateful, try to turn the other cheek ,we all have bad days And then again ,like everything a few are just pr***s
Btw admin if this isnt in the right area ,please by all means move it. Also my grammer sucks but its a little before 6am,so sorry if it doesnt make any sense
Nope, it makes alot of sense. Trucking is made up of bunches of people, each doing their specific part of the whole. The biggest problem is that very few "bunches" take time to understand the others. We're all too busy being wrapped up in our own particular part. Over the past 38 years I've been "fortunate (?)" enough to wear several hats in the industry; from mechanic to driver to O/O to dispatch to starting up my own little company and watching it go down the tubes despite my best efforts. None of us can succeed without the others and it's long past time we realize that. You want respect from dispatch or management? Well then you better generate some respect for what it is they do. You don't have to kiss their behind but a little smile and Thank You every now and then and you might be surprised at the result. Likewise that warehouse you're sitting at with a hundred other trailers that have to be loaded asap like you do. Think about it.
