Analog TV Becoming Obsolete, but You Don't Have to Toss it

The #### tube is going the way of the dinosaur, but that doesn't mean you have to toss your old analog TV.
Thanks to the Digital Television Transition and Public Safety Act, starting on Feb. 17, 2009, broadcasters will no longer be able to broadcast their programming via the analog signal.
That means, if you don't make enhancements to your analog TV before that date, you'll no longer be able to watch your favorite broadcasted programs. . (On Wednesday Best Buy (BBY: 46.96, -0.88, -1.83&#37 was the first of the electronics retailers to announce it would stop selling analog TVs ahead of the shift to all digital broadcasting.)
The government-backed move is designed to provide consumers a much better viewing experience and, at the same time, free up the analog spectrum for emergency first responders.
While many will likely hold out, saying their analog TV is just fine, there are real reasons to switch to digital TV.The most obvious one is quality. Even the worst computer monitor has better resolution than analog TVs. With digital TV, signals are sent in a more efficient manner, giving consumers crisper, clearer audio and video. Once the 2009 deadline passes, the days of blurry screens and snow will be history.

Best Buy stated that next month they will no longer carry tube televisions.
