I am looking for brokers that own and run their own trucks as well. tHUS BEING BROKER AND OWNER OPERATOR. How is the market for the entire united states ? WE are primary doing business in ohio kentucky michigan and Florida. Kinda looking to expand out to hit another 10 states in the next few months. We are also kinda stuck on dry van freight as well and looking to maybe hit the flate bed market. We know some about flate beds but not enough to be tring to broker yet. We want to be able to make the drivers money (real money) before we even consider this.

Ok owner op's with your own authority you can help me here understand the market much better. I know from exp that tarp pay is dirt cheap for the labor involved. from what I have seen most pay anywhere from 35-75 for this. Now before I let my ego get the best of me thats cheap for tarp pay believe me I have done it. What is a good rate to pay owner for tarp pay ?

What is a good miliage rate for a flate bed run lets say 1,000 miles with maybe 35,000 lb load ? Not over dimentional loads either. I do not plan to get into this kinda freight till I learn all the permits and such. What companies do i need to stay away from ? while booking loads ?

    Thanks for the info.

Do you have all your own customers or are you just passing on 3pl, logistics company's and broker freight?

I have my own right now. Which is very small account maybe 20 loads a month. I am looking to maybe expand in the future But I also want to do it slow to make sure I can keep up with them all. I am more worried about retaining good owners to haul it then I am getting the freight. I am not looking for third party stuff or the ones who want to double broker stuff this is confusing little lone illigal. I really need to take this all slow as I have a boat load of things going on at once. I also have a small vending company of which makes my bread and butter right now. Really just asking about the rates and fair settlement for the owner on flate beds. per mile and tarp pay.

    No worries heavyhaul.
I myself hated brokers while driving, they lie to every trucker on the road. I do hope to be able to change this aspect at least on my end. This is the reason I am going slow. I have had a ton of brokers tring to get me to double their loads. This is the very reason we have all the problems that we have out here. I am not into the cheap freight or volume of loads just to make ends meat. I would rather have one hundred shippers sending one load then to have one shipper shipping 100 loads. I know now that money can be made if you treat the owner right and pass on the freight cost to him then to try and hide this. Almost all loads that go off a dock pays at least 1.50 a mile even the cheap loads we pull from Florida. the brokers here have scraped the top so many times their is nothing left for the drivers. I can honestly say if you pull a load from any place in the state of Florida you are being scalped from the get go.
