Any drivers for ABF out of Bloomington IL terminal

Just trying to get any info about working at this terminal. What kind of shifts do u work being the low guy, do the new guys get laid off and miss days of work during the week. Thanks for any info you can provide. I have any interview coming up this week with them.

just depends i walked into a bid never got laid off you basically get the night shift like at 11pm for city work or maybe a ue run which you go to a terminal unload and reload your trailer and take it back to your home terminal. if you dont get a bid hours differ some days some nights may miss a day remember freight picks up later in the 2nd quarter so if you were to get hired now their may be a good chance of very steady work

 

Thanks for the info, the interview went well and he said the next step is the back ground which could take 3 to 4 weeks to complete.
He said I would start out working dock and driving. He said he had 3 or 4 drivers that could retire soon with one in the process of retiring now and they are getting ready to pick up some more routes. hopefully I would move up some shortly after getting hired and be able to bid a route.
Just don’t like the idea of not knowing what hours I’ll work from day to day til I could get a route, but I also understand that’s how it works and everyone goes through it. I just need to decide if it’s a good move for the family if given the opportunity.
He also said they have only had to lay a guy off 1 time in the last 3 years. Just hard going into the unknown, but it’s hard to beat the benefits and pay for being home everyday.

 

the background check was horible that 4 weeks is going to be 4 weeks it just seems like them checking refrences is to difficult but the pay does make up for it when i left 3 years ago i left making 85k i did put in a decent amount of ot and came in on off days what ever your sunday is is double time kind of hard to pass up 50 something an hour

 

Yah 50 an hour would be hard to pass up. He said they usually don’t work weekends, but sometimes they do if a customer needs something. I’m guessing a more senior go would be all over the OT before it got to the bottom guy.
