I'm wanting to go back to hauling oversize and heavy haul and I've been looking into Daily Express. I know what kind of work they do and what to expect but the pay seems to be low for what they do. I'm being told I would average 1.80 a mile to the truck for loaded and empty miles. They pay everything but bobtail insurance. Is it just me or are they cheap? Are there any other o/o that can chime in and tell me otherwise?
That is cheap IMO & would not work per mile. I wouldn't heavy haul for anything less than a % of the haul. Some places in FL, we are seeing $1 per mile per axle for heavy haul. I think you would be leaving a lot of money on the table..
My friends do far better than that pulling Daily's triaxle RGN's. It is percentage based although a bit low of a percentage IMO.
They pay you 60.2 percent of the load plus fuel if you use their trailer which they said averages to 1.80 a mile. I'm hoping they are just low balling it with the 1.80 a mile but I haven't ran into any o/o's around here yet to verify.
What kind of trailer are you going to pull for them, step deck? You can get some idea of their rates by looking at the brokerage section on their website under loads. 60% is hard to swallow though if you're talking about step.
The loads they have posted is money to the truck after the 60% so it looks to be a little better then I was thinking.
Those are brokerage loads, so they've taken a cut, but probably not 40% like thy do for their trucks.
We have hauled 5 loads for them. We have been happy and get regular calls for other loads but nothing works out. It is my understanding they take a cut of everything except the fuel. Why not look to a company like LS? Forty can tell you for open deck at LS you have to really work to only make that rate to the truck.
I've thought about LS and the only thing I'm worried about is I've heard the freight out of Houston is around 2.60 a mile before LS gets their cut. I'm worried I might have to stay out longer then I want to make up for the cheap rates in and out of Texas.
