Hello, does anyone here have an order placed with a Volvo dealer for a sleeper cab VNL truck with a production slot for a first half of 2023? The dealer informed me that Volvo came out with updated pricing and some sort of $6000 surcharge on top of it, which effectively hikes the price 15% compared to reservation made couple months ago. I’m wondering how much of it is baloney.
Probably not baloney at all. Just inflation in line with what we're seeing on everything else. I hate it too, but it is what it is. I had a new personal vehicle on order from Ford. The manufacturer cancelled my 2022 order citing 'supply chain issues'. They recommended I reorder a 2023 instead at a markup of $6k for the EXACT SAME TRUCK. No parts are different, it's just a 2023 instead of 2022. I said no thanks. It's just the world we're livin' in.
I’m talking about almost $30k difference. My reservation was quoted for $192k, now he comes back with $220k and acts like, oh by the way here’s the updated pricing for your truck. Same truck same year model.
I'd tell them to shove it. Give it 6 months or so and when the pain of last years 'exuberance' kicks in, they'll be willing to deal.
It will be at least two more years before these self made shortages clear up is what higher up with Paccar told me. Just have to make best business decisions you can, or find a crystal ball.
I get the point of telling them to shove it, but it would leave me without a truck. I’m just trying to figure out if others (I assume there’s got to be someone else with new Volvo order here) also got similar increases or if this dealer is trying to make a quick buck on me.
