    Hi all,
I was wondering about ATS and there o/o program. I know that with them you can do dry van or flatbed. I live in Ohio and I was thinking of doing flatbed because Ohio is very good with flatbed. Is ATS the right company to go with? Also what is home time like? I own my own truck but not a trailer. Thank you.

As an O/O you should be able to go home when ever you feel like it. Else what is the point having someone else dictate and micromanage your life for you as an O/O?

Well as we both know most companies don't give you that option.

That is a company driver mentality.

I am an O/O. I have leased my truck to a carrier. I started with out a trailer and ended up buying the trailer I was leasing.

I come and go as I choose. I decide what I haul and dont haul. I decide if its paying enough or if I just feel lazy and taking a day off to watch the clouds in the sky. I decide when I want to go home, how long I stay home,.. days, weeks,.. a month,.. my truck, my choice, my life. No company will ever dictate my life again.

If you can not do any of this, then you may as well sell your truck and drive as a company driver. What is the point in having your own business if you can not even control when you want to go home?

Maybe ask this question in the ATS company thread?

I have hauled ATS brokered loads. But know little about the company itself.

Hurst is right. Why buy a truck then let someone else tell you what to do with it. The freight market is the only thing that runs my truck. If you can't pick and choose your freight and home time then you need to find a company that does. It's plenty out there

EXACTLY! When your name is on the title to the truck and you alone are responsible for all of the operating expenses, there is no such thing as "forced dispatch". Had that conversation MANY times with dispatchers at a previous company. "Out-of-route" miles are another thing that is no longer any of the company's business. As long as you pick up the load on time and deliver on time, and didn't break any laws doing so, HOW you got it done really isn't anything the company needs to worry about.

If I went home whenever I felt like it I'd never leave the house LOL. For a lot of us, not as independently wealthy as others types, it's more like go home when you know you can afford it.
