Hi all, hope your well. I know this question gets asked millions
of times and I apologize for not looking up older threads but a
few major things have changed as Mega's are now doing away
with training on Standard Trucks and are going the auto route
which means a restricted CDL or half a license and they are still
quoting prices which were for road testing on a manual truck.
I went thru a lot of reading and was not able to be certain if a
place I wanted to train/work at would provide training in a
    manual transmission.
The way to get the restriction removed is by going to another
road test, which would be time consuming and costly because
afaik a day off per week of work or similar schedule of not
knowing when I could get days off to schedule a appointment
    might be very difficult. TIA

Where are you in New York?
Best to call some mega's that train and ask about transmissions.
FFE (Frozen Food Express) still trains with stick shifts and I think KLLM still does.
    Probably several more.
WIOA Program New York pays for private cdl school, free to you. Find out which schools they pay for, then call and ask if they train on stick shifts.

Stevens Transport sends their students to private schools and most private schools use stick shift.

I am in Queens, I looked up WIOA that looks like my best bet.
Your a saint CT, I was undecided with the contracts and other confusing stuff related to starting trucking and the waiting for approval for a training grant but I will try for the grant, it says the approval process takes two months and there is a list of schools who do road tests on a standard. After you get your cdl, what type job do you want; local/regional/ or coast to coast?

Here's one and you only need a cdl permit: (probably use stick shift transmission)
Martin Brower - click here > Apply On Company Site
Must have valid commercial driver’s license or learner permit to operate a CMV and agree to satisfactorily complete the Company Entry Level Driver Training program outlined herein.

Martin brower is owned by Reyes holdings. I work for one of their other divisions. It's food service. In my region they deliver McDonald's. Not sure what else. The division I work for is moving into autos.
