Hello, have an issue that started April 21/2017.

    It’s a 2005 Acert BXS twin turbo c15 in a Freightliner.

    575 hp/2050 tq tune.

It seems to have a slight miss under load and the boost gauge doesn’t move as quick or as high as it did previously.

Feels more like a 475 hp cat but with a miss.

    Engine light is not showing.

I did notice that the truck when I left the yard in the morning, drove out of town empty, the engine sputtered bad and lots of white smoke puffing out the exhaust.

After 30 seconds it cleared up and seemed normal all morning.

Then in the afternoon, the truck didn’t feel as powerful while loaded and started missing.

    Any ideas?

IVAs still active? Or did they get backed off with the new program

I’m still learning about these acerts.

    Is that Intake Valve Actuator?

    What’s the purpose of that?

I just started learning about my BXS, but it does sound like an injector failing. If you can use an IR gun, you can see which one it is. A batch of injector cleaner might help, or sending it in and having it cleaned up might help as well. The worst case would be to replace it, about $550, plus have it programed.

Pushbroom: I think the IVA was turned off to stop the engine light coming on.

    Does that make sense?

A5c: could be the injector as the truck has 812,000 miles or 1.3 million km.

May as well send the truck in to get it checked.

An injector cleaning is about $80 around here. Then you can get a complete overhead and things will be good to go.

These engines are know for bad injector/IVA wiring harness. Check where the wiring harness connects to the valve cover housing. If there is lots of oil in that area that could be your problem. The oil shorts the connectors and gives you a bad miss. Sometimes mine will miss and briefly give me a code 74, on dash, injector 5 or 6 current high. I also have a 05 Cat 15 ACERT engine in a 387 Peterbilt. Had to change all the IVA connections on the harness. Now it looks like I'm going to have to replace the inside harness at about $300 for the parts. I have the original software with IVA's working. No deletes.

It would make sense that the IVAs were turned off it you got it tuned. 575/2050 aint a factory cat file.
Check for air in the fuel first. Probably an injector going out.
Ivas can stick and wear out causing missing/ rough running conditions.

    spsauerland Thanks this.

Low power sounds like it's derated to me. Drops you to about 2/3 power until the issue is found and fixed. Start by having it hooked to a computer to see if it has thrown a code.

Expeditor, pushbroom: I will check the connections and possible air in fuel in am.

Rustybolt: so far no engine light at all.
We will be sending truck to shop if this doesn’t clear up after I deliver this one load in am

Even at 2/3 power, it feels like a factory 475 and still pulling good.
