bypassing Port of entries?

    How many of you or know of others that will route around POEs when possible, because of time and the increasing hassles, fines,and knit picking that take place now days?

    i always avoid dot or scales unless it's more than a couple of miles out of the way my stuff is in good shape but i don't need the hassle or time involved

    So are you saying if the bypass involves more than a couple miles that you then choose to go through the port ?

    Just make sure you go far enough around the poe's. I am 2 out of 3 going around the POE's in eastern AZ. and western NM comming from Morenci Az, the only failure resulted in a warning and a real quick inspection.

    You run motel Blvd in lordsburg? I've seen a lot of guys run that way, but I've also seen a lot get caught.
    And the duncan scales pay a lot more attention then people think. I got pulled over by DOT in duncan cuz he thought i was runnin the scales....... I live there, i was going home!! LOL

    I believe that was the name, it's the one that goes down to the truck stop, a buddie and I did it last spring and made it but I tried it this winter and didn't. I went through duncan this winter but around last spring, last year our 3 day permit expired the day before we got loaded and didn't want to have to pay again, and basically the same thing with NM. This last trip I was all legal so no worrys but thought I'd try anyway:biggrin_25512:

    If possible I avoid. Its just not worth the hassle or the suspicion of guilt they place a driver under. Just because I drive a truck hauling the things that they go to the store and buy, does not mean I'm guilty of a crime!!!!
    A lot of the DOT jack axxes will dig and dig until they find some thing to pin on you. Its all about the revenue, and I try to keep their thieving fingers out of my pockets as much as possible.

    LOL! Yeah its hit and miss around lordsburg, I hate when they have the westbound open, and I'm heading home, usually over hours. I've hat to sit at that pilot, 40 miles from home, til they cleared out of there!!

    Sorry guys, I just don't see it. Keep your paperwork legal, and your truck in good shape. Have a decent attitude when you do get pulled in. And no, I don't mean you have to kiss their fanny's. Just treat them like you want to be treated. Yeah, once in a while you will come up with an adam henry of a DOT officer. (I did with a female DOT out in Limon Colorado a number of years ago.) But for the most part they are just people who are doing their job, just like we are.

    There is no reason to subject yourself to the fines they will likely nail you with if you are caught going around a port. And while it may not be likely that you will get caught, it sure can happen.

    I only ran around the scales when I hauled gas. Was usually overweight by a 1000 lbs. That was because I had a 20 y/o, double manifolded, 5 compartment trailer full of hoses and fittings.

    When I was OTR I kept my truck clean inside and out. Even if it meant me paying for a truck wash it seemed to pay dividends going through the scales. Keep the clutter off the dash and out of the windows. There were many times I went through with a bad log book ( I am really lazy filling it out) and was passed right on through. I firmly believe it was because of the appearance of my truck.
