Can I get a local job with only two months experience.

Well I'm trying to decide if I would try to get a local job once my contract is over with. I must stay with the company for 18 months. Last week I was in the mountains in Tennessee and it make me rethink about life. Lol I'm thinking about trying my luck and and a local job

 

tough to say, but if you do, and renege on your contract, you will be in a world of hurt when they hit you with back payments, and interest charges, and maybe even collection fee's. this could hurt your credit rating as well.

best to fulfill your contract, and gain even MORE time behind the wheel and all seasons driving.

 

The mountains have a way of showing you what is important in life. At least that was my experience when was in Colorado skiing with a friends back in '96.

But, yes, you can get a local job with little to no experience. It will depend on what you are willing to do, besides driving. Many might start you off on the dock, until a driving position opens up. Some small outfits might hire you as a driver to start with. Depends on the needs of the company and the region you live in.

The second part of your question is with what you WILL OWE to your training company. The full amount agreed upon.
You will have to start making payments out of your own pocket, instead of direct withdrawal from your settlement checks.

 

i think it'd be kinda funny if he gets a local job and his route is the slums of the cities.

kinda takes away from the mountain views....eh..???

 

It can happen. Depends on the area he lives in.

 

i have done it. some here dont like my methods but hey im still in the seat, no tickets, no accidents or reportables.i drive a milk truck and left werner after only 4 months. i left werner and went for dump trucks for the summer, in the fall i went to a milk tanker company that's always hard up for drivers. he gave me some additional training.

i completely understand not wanting to be "out" on the road, im on the road but not "out" on the road. if it works out for you, your not going to get the best company or the best pay but those are the sacrifices i make to have some degree of what i consider normal for myself.

i make around $54K which is not awful but work allot of hours for that money. this is all about deciding what is right for you and what your are willing to accept.

in short it is possible and i have done it. dont care what anyone here thinks, those were my career goals at this point in time and i have achieved them thus far.

allot of this all depends upon what your personal life is like. kids? wife? house? maybe OTR is not a good fit, maybe you can accept those things. its UP to you to decided no one else.

I live in Albany GA and these local job want truckers with 2 years or more. I like being out driving. I'm a regional driver. I'm more worry about that contract. If quit will they try to garnish my check or take me to court

 

If you like driving and seeing the country, finish your contract, then go with a coast to coast outfit. If you don't want Northeast runs, there's plenty of those companies also that do west coast, pacific northwest, etc. and no northeast.
