I am presently a driver running mostly in AZ. I was an O/O for 8 years before 2007 when the construction industry fell apart and I had to sell the truck and get a job. I am thinking about buying a truck but I'm not sure if you can still make money running instate. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

The good news- My new 3 day run is just in NY and i make a good buck doing it..Before this run i did a big % of ''just in state'' and made good money...So YES you can..

The bad news-Now go try and find the ''in state'' loads which is not easy to do.And then hope someone else does not have it ''locked'' up till retirement.

I don't know about instate, but I run Phx to LA & make a pretty good living at it. I see the same trucks out here every week, so I know I'm not the only one doing it.

What kind of money do you think your looking for? I run instate At $4 per mile. Approx 200-300 on miles. So $800-1,200 per day to the truck. 5 days a week. If that is enough for your lifestyle then yes you can do it. Problem for you will be finding an account a broker hasn't already.

I do a lot of just bordering states to AZ and do fine, home about every other day. Phx, LA and back is a very busy route right now.

Thanks for the info but I don't want to run to CA mainly because I'm not going to buy a 2007 or newer truck.

Why not? Do you know how much things are going to change next year? Im still trying to figure out how to get up enough nerve to ask landstar8891 for a loan so I can build myself a cross dock facility and buy a fleet of rental trucks that can shuttle trailers in and out if Cali!

No peanuts here, loads above 2.50 and less than 25k are common on the LA-PHX lane. Those other guys get what we pass up mostly the heavy less than 2.00 freight.
