    2003 Kenworth T800
    Cobra 29 LTD radio,
Wilson 2000 antenna, 10in shaft with a 49 inch whip. My question is that I don't like how I have to angle the antenna with it being mounted on the drivers mirror so the whip isn't hitting everything. Could a guy cut the whip down a bit without losing much reception??

    No.

Cutting it changes the frequency that it operates at efficiently.

I can't answer much more than that but others can.

I installed a Hustler FG27S 4 foot antenna on my boss's 2003 t800. Worked fine and easy to tune. I put one on a 2006 Pete I was driving and it worked fine too. Very durable antennas too.

Height is might.....Shorter = worsen the performance and radio has to work harder to get out the same distence..
I was lookin for power output ability of a longer vs shorter ant chart but no luck..
I did see one but no idea where i found it..

I beleive you can run a shorter shaft below the coil. Do not cut the static rod.

Shorter shaft means coil is lowered and you will loose performance and get more reflect off truck cab, might even throw off ant tune cause now whip "may not" be long enough..

A good radio man would be able to be more descriptive re ant performance when change to a shorter length...

But tilting then antenna still has the same effect, lowering the antenna cause reflections off the cab. I run Monkey Made antennas, they tune up well, seem to work well, short shafts, off the mirrors of a W900 Studio. I have ran antennas off the rear of the cab but like the short shafts off the mirrors the best to me. I tryed longer shafts and tilting them, but it seems the short shafts, phased off both morrors work better, at least in my experience. I run a single Wilson middle of the roog on my F150 P/U.

Well a w9 last i looked had a higher mount point that a t800 unless the w9 has a lower mount point as well...
Why do you need a big ole air cooled ant on your 4 watt radio...
Tilting works not when sitting still but as wind blast hits the whip and brings it up to a more vertical position..
I have had less performance with a big coiled ant on a low mount mirror arm vs a longer(102" on 10" riser) or a top loaded skip shooter.
Even a base load will work better on the roof of a pick up than your short mm on your w9

Because I use it on 10 meters as well... I have a General Class also. I find 10 meters works well out in Mercury, I spend alot of time on the dry lakes.

If you replace the lower shaft with a shorter one...THEN you will need a longer stinger to get the antenna to tune....
