CDL MVR question - previously suspended license for non payment

    Hello I was wondering if anyone has had a similar experience with having a DL suspension and applying for jobs in trucking. So my story keep it short. Was in a fender bender and ticketed for that as I was at fault. Not to say that I have no excuse because I owned up to being at fault. Was in a accident at work a few months ago that I nearly lost my life over let alone walked away from. Left me without a job for a while as I didn't qualify for any supplemental income to help pay my fees. I worked in ems for the last 6 years and never had an major accidents or tickets. My license was suspended for less than 90 days. Does anyone know who or what companies will be willing to work with me? Or is it just a bad time to apply.

    How long ago was the suspension? How long ago was the at fault accident? Are you getting turned down by companies right now?

    It was back I'm February my license was suspended. The accident was in January of this year. And I have not applied for any jobs yet.

    1) Was suspended indicating your license is good now.
    2) You've been out of trucking for 6 years
    3) I am assuming you have a class E or regular car license... not a CDL?

    If so, you're going to have to get your CDL back first....
    then you'll probably have to start all over because most companies wont take you after you've been out of the loop for 6 years like that.
    So you'll most likely have to start ground up. Now, some companies will take you with that much gap but not since you havent had a CDL in 6 years.
    Again, some companies will but you'll most likely have to ride with a trainer for a period of time before you get turned loose.

    So, in the end, once you get your CDL back, you can go to work but you will probably have to start at the bottom with a mega & work your way back up into a good company.

    How long did you drive before you got out of trucking? That could be another factor.

    Apply at companies that you see regularly in your area. You will be surprised how forgiving some will be of past mistakes. It worked for me and 12 years later I have a one of the best jobs in the industry.

    Thanks for your information and reply it's greatly appreciated! Just to clarify I never had a cdl my previous work was in public service. I'm looking to obtain my cdl through a carrier atm. Not being to picky with what I'm looking for just something for seat time to gain.

    Suspensions for non-payment of surcharges/fines is not as career ending VRS suspensions 'for cause' like MV manslaughter, leaving the scene, comitting a felony with a CMV, etc.

    MOST insurance companies only count items within the previous 3 years [DUI jumps to 5 years minimum] and have some allowances.

    The most common is 3 years with only (1) 'at fault' accident and few moving violations.

    Had one company that allowed one 'at fault' accident with no more than one 'major' moving violation -or- no more than three 'minor' violations and came with a list of their major/minor viollations.

    I just retired from a company who's insurance broker did our MVR's and would green light anyone whose MVR was good.

    They always demanded to see accident reports when more than one showed in the previous three years to prove that no more than one was 'at fault'.

    HINT: Always get a copy of every PD accident report!

    Any 'boarderline' candidate could be appealed to the insurance underwriters; like when the 2nd 'at fault' was 2 years and 10 months ago.

    OP shouldn't sweat his old record, just keep clean and let that stuff get 'older'.

    Do mention the suspension and the accident on your application and be sure to include the 'why' regarding the suspension reason.
