checklist for noob

Should be heading to little rock for orientation first of January. So i thought i would start a thread for what i will need after training. I have tools, 24 volt jump box, etc but i am a sponge for info of things you have encountered a need for on the road. Give me ideas on everything from drawers to sealant silicone.

well....with trainer you will need a lot less than when you go out on your own. sleeping bag is a good idea for out with trainer, as you dont know how much room you will have (probably not much). personal hygiene stuff, a towel. pens pencils. cell phone is pretty much a must. your laptop. when on your own you will want bungee cords, buy a laminated trucker atlas (costs more but will last 10 times longer so cheaper in the long run). i would no longer leave home without a trucker gps. cb radio. check with your company as to their rules for inverter. will you be able to buy one that connects to battery and have them install it, or will you have to make do with cig lighter plug in one? cig lighter plug in refrigerator, or if you have inverter to battery, dorm refrigerator is good alternative. bluetooth headset for cell phone. (i love blue parrot). a good flashlight (a nice big one can also be a self defense tool). tire hammer. 5-10 changes of clothes (more is going to be in the way). ALWAYS have in your possession 1 or 2 headlamp replacements in the truck, and some fuel treatment for preventing gel-ling (sp?). im sure theres a ton im leaving out, but theres some stuff anyhow.

 

GPS is a great tool it saves me a lot of time

 

a really good pair of sun glasses, not cheap ones from the dollar store. something good to read,a paper back is smaller than a lap top, chap stick, and some hand cream the heater will dry your skin out fast. and most of all bring your good sense with you, just because you are a new driver does not mean you wont need it. lots of luck on your new adventure

oh and to heck with books..kindle killed the radio star...er, the book binder rather. kindle is friggin awesome! used to have WAY too many books in the truck, then parents bought me a kindle for christmas last year. couldnt be happier to leave all that darn paper at home and spend a few extra dollars.

right...the buggles claimed video killed the radio star...course in the long run apple's ipod made short work of both. and kindle killed the need for bulky hard-to-store-in-a-truck books
