Cited for driving in high winds.

Today, i got pulled over in Nevada. Trooper said there was a high wind advisory in that corridor i was traveling at and no high profile vehicles were allowed on that part of the road.


I did see the sign that said "no trucks-high winds".

ok,but....


He pulled me over. Engaged on a level 3 inspection. Then, cited me?..... for driving in the wind?

I explained that the sign was not near an exit and wanted to get off when i saw it. He said, "i know, i know, but you peeled out" LOL

Trooper was cool, not really agressive. But know, my CSA record will state


"Local laws (general)//ref 484b.300 HIGH WINDS TRUCKS PROHIBITED//DRIVING THROUGH WASHOE VALLEY WHEN RESTRICTED.
VIO Code 392.2 Section 392.2 Unit/driver OOS/no US395 @ washoe NV.

This whole trucking business is so "fun".

It was only a 50 mile stretch and my payload GVW was at 79,000 lb. How would i have a problem in 60mph wind gusts?

Well I agree with the officer (trust me, I can't stand cops) BUT in this situation I understand. It's kind of like driving and you see a "road closed,high water" sign, you enter, you face the consequences. How much was the citation for?

 

you seen the sign and yet you went anyway ? what did it not apply to you ? I'm sorry most of these tickets I hear about yeah they could be judgmental type stuff, but you read the sign and know what it means and you go ahead and go NOW you worry about the CSA points! too late now eat what the cook brought you

Where was the sign in relation to an exit ramp? If it was before and exit or rest area or someplace else you could have safely parked then you are guilty, but if the sign stands out in the middle of no where and you had not yet come to a safe place to stop, then you have a case.

 

I know two drivers both have thirty years of experience that have been blown off the road buy gusts slower than 60 the wind is nothing to play with even loaded once it gets over fifty it may be a good time to find a place two park and call your company .

 

Now I dont know if its the same but a friend of mine blew the sign on 395 south in Carson no trucks high wind and got ticketed state of nevada said it was a four point violation on ur DMV record.....

 

There was a driver yesterday that ignored a high wind advisory on the Chesapeke Bay Bridge. He's in the hospital now when the wind blew him over and his cab landed on the rail.

They do these things to keep you and others safe. It's no different than chain up laws. Anything over 40 mph can play havoc on a truck. Then gusting winds are more dangerous than steady southwest winds because they can catch you off guard. Like mule said weight or not you could easily be blown off the road with that sail behind you. Then what might you hit?

I find it easier not to second guess any sign and just obey them. It makes trucking life much easier. You talked yourself into that one and the wind did hurt you like they thought. It hurt your feelings and your wallet!
