First of all, Thanks to all who post info. I'm 52 and have traveled for 20 years but not as a professional driver. I'm planning on getting my CDL training locally out of my pocket, some companies reimburse on a monthly basis while you work for them, that's good but not a decision maker. I have talked to recruiters with Maverick and Roehl, I want to go flatbed either Southeast or Southern region respectfully. The Maverick recruiter told me 2 weeks of safety & securement, the recruiter from Roehl told me they have 3 days of securement. Questions: What's the difference? Seems 2 weeks is much better Which company for a newbie? Seems both have a lot to offer. Auto shift vs manual, comments? Seems the company means more to me but I would like to know what the do the pro's say.
I am with maverick and can only say good things about them. I am well pleased with them. I make good money, am home almost every weekend and drive nice equipment. Best company I have ever driven for. You live in a good area for them and will get home on the weekends with no problem and still take home over $52.500 your 1st year.
I mentioned this in another thread but will mention it hear. Maverick does hire students, but if you go through thier school the school is back logged a year. I just talked to the recruiter last week about this. But Maverick does seem to be the company to work for especially if your a new driver. I am preppring to go to school this next week, but since I need school I am not able to join up with Maverick at this time. I need the work, so I guess I will take my lumps with P.A.M Transport or Allen Frieght for a year then cross over to Maverick. If you get your school outside of Maverick I assume your good to go. Congrats if thats the way you go. Maybe in a year and half I will bump into you. (not literally lol). -Crank
I have just started at maverick.I quit my job Aug 10 and went to school in Newport for my cdl I paid my own way for school.(that is the one that maverick uses)$1750.00 I applied for maverick one week before that.Maybe I am just lucky but the whole process took me about six weeks If you go to "have to start somewhere" you can read the whole journey.Hope that helps good luck
You are in TN. You would probably be in the US Div. That is where I am. You would still get home on weekends. The divisions are kind of difficult to explain. Just because someone is in the south div, does not mean you won't go to chicago. They will bounce you a good ways to get you miles.
Daytona45, Thanks , I did read your posts. They are full of great info. Crank, Good Luck to you as well. Notarps4me, Chicago is not a problem, I don't particularly like the upper NE or NYC though but will go where I have to.
notarps4me- I received your other message but I'm having a problem getting back to you via your recommendation.
