So i was given a start date of May/2014 to begin with Stevens transport.... but since then I've decided to give the wia program a try... i have been accepted and they are going to pay for training at Sage Truckdriving School... what should i do? Stevens offer cdl school and a job, Sage offers a cdl n no contract as well as no further training such as going over the road with a trainer for months at a time for deeper training (including mountain experiences)... any info on what would be the best route? Thanks!!!!
If you're going OTR, you'll be paired up with a trainer, anyhow. I'd go with the WIA program. Then, you can research various companies, and have a choice. And actually research them.. don't make another one of these "HEY! I'M NEW! TELL ME WHAT COMPANY I SHOULD GO WITH BECAUSE I WON'T DO MY OWN RESEARCH!" threads that are so common on here. If WIA pays for your school and leaves you with options, how would that not be more desirable than being bound to a company for a year or more?
Go with WIA and Sage. After Sage you will have dozens of companies to choose from and will not be indebted to any company.
The choice is yours. Remember though, your getting into a new career with no experience OTR. I remember when I first started driving, I wanted to learn EVERYTHING I could to be Safe and Professional. I realized that it would take only ONE stupid move, and the career is over. Or even a life lost. You can't put a price on education, if its going to make you a better driver. I personally, would go with Stevens. I know Swift has a good new driver program too. Like I said, the choice is yours. But, grasp everything you can to learn. Good Luck!!
