I consider myself pretty educated about the industry despite the fact that I don't have a ton of experience, but I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around this contract s#!t and maybe somebody wiser could provide some insight?

Back when, I signed a contract with crst. Eight months of work in Exchange for free school. Unfortunatly I spent most of my career with them broken down or sitting at the truck stop. I bailed on them four months early due to some health problems but truthfully I would have probably left anyway cuz the company itself is so disorganized. Flash forward a few months later. My health problems are fairly well controlled now and I'm without a job and wanting to go back. I called crst and they signed me up for a rehire orientation. Twice I've had to put it off by a week and the third time I knew I was done. Despite the fact that I need work I really dont want to go back because I know how disorganized they are and how minimal the money is for contract students. So I've tried contacting other otr companies but they won't touch me because of that contract. My question is how do I get another otr job now that crst is no longer an option. Everyone is telling me its impossible but I've known of former contract students who put their cdl to work for them. Just don't know how they did it. I don't have four grand to pay off the school money they fronted me but id hate to see my cdl and four months otr experience go to waste.

    Who are you calling disorganized?

You blew them off again after they let you back in.

    TIMES 3 !!!!!!

    Suck it up!

Since you are unemployed your best way out is to fulfill the contract.

They were disorganized way, way before I bailed on the rehire, bro. I was there for four months prior remember?

As for being unemployed, id actually make more on unemployment than the average driver makes under contract. It isn't about the money, entirely. I miss driving more than anything else...driving, not sitting at the t/a or spending my days in the shop. That's the biggest reason why I don't want to go back unless absolutely necessary. Appreciate the advice though.

Let me preface my response by saying that I do not mean to come off as a j#@k ### to you, however, someone needs to. Hopefully you will take this as the serious advice it is and not just a slew of insults.

While you do not post your age, I assume you are not a child, so, stop acting like one. By your statements you were given drivers training by CRST, you received a CDL because of that training, and then after you were licensed, they gave you further training so you could learn to be a truck driver; much different than just CDL training. They provided you with equipment to learn on; I doubt they promised you a new truck and part of learning to be a truck driver is learning to deal with break downs. Yeah, you even learned something when dealing with a broken truck, slow moving shop, and incompetent office staff; you learned what it is to be a trucker. After they were done training you and you got what you wanted, a CDL, you now want to abandon your part of your agreement. THAT IS THE REAL REASON NO ONE WANTS TO HIRE YOU; A LACK OF INTEGRITY. Seriously, as you read your post and my response to the situation above, would YOU hire YOU? I would not, and I have given many people a second chance that barely deserved a first chance. Now quit sniveling about broken trucks, bad shops, or whatever non sense you want to focus on and get your ### back in the truck and finish off your obligation to them, pay them the money you owe them, or go find another industry to take a s#!t in. The world is full of dead beats - are you one?

Now, I know my words are tough to swallow and I did not say what you wanted to hear, but seriously, man up. Finish your last four months with them and then look for another job. That is if you did not throw a hand grenade into your DAC / Hire Right report with everything that has happened thus far.

I wish you the best of luck in your decision.

Opinions are like arseholes, right? Dzefinately not offended easliy so don't worry. BTW, how would I go about checking my dac/hire right? Now you've got me worried lol.

Crst is more than likely no longer an option, and from the sounds of it nothing else is either. I'll keep trying but if I have to hang up my cb then so be it.
