Hello, I'm a 48 year old and I'm looking to get into the trucking industry. I've done a ton of research on trucking schools, thanks to TR. Many to choose from. I have narrowed it down to a few company sponsored schools (since I can't afford to take time off work to attend a private or college truck driver school) :prime-CR England-Swift-. I've heard good & bad on these schools, especially CR r,not so much on Swift . I'm looking mostly at Prime but they want a 10 yr employment history. I don't have an issue with that but I can't remember every job I've had in the last 10 years. I've had a few full time jobs within my career of 25 years and countless part time jobs to make up for my weak wages in my full time career . Prime's website is a mess by the way. You can't even get past the 3 year address portion. It keeps defaulting to the current address page..I'm also looking at Swift & CR because they seem to get you started in a reasonable amount of time. I know.....'I'm crazy' ...but I have zero experience, so I feel these 2 (CR & Swift) would be a good start. Do it for a year and move on to another company. I just want to provide for my family is all. Nothing more nothing less. By the way I graduated from college almost 26 years ago....I never thought I'd be going back to school again :) Thanks for your time & any tips, advice will be appreciated.

Yes, both company sponsored training. Can you get tax records from your previous employment? Does the applications ask for 10 year employment history or 10 year trucking employment history? Make some phone calls to the trucking companies and ask. Some want 3 year employment history or 10 year trucking employment history.

    Central Refrigerated
    Prime flatbed or tanker

If you're having trouble with the application on Prime's website you may want to give recruiting a call. As far as the 10 year job history, I doubt they would need that for you, they would probably just need 3 years. The FMCSR's require them to get a 10 year driving job history and 3 years overall.

if you have tax returns for last three years most companys will accept that as proof of employment. have you look at millis in black river falls wisconsin? heard a lot of good about them. my thinking is that swift is to large a company to care about you.

Study for your tanker/hazmat endorsements plus get a passport & TWIC. This will prepare you for the better paying jobs in the future. Usually, when these jobs become availabe, they need drivers right then and can't wait a couple of months for someone to get the necessary endorsements.
