Currently getting my CDL, wanting to move to Winter Haven FL.

Man the whole state of Florida is a traffic nightmare! A lot of drivers like going there, me not so much. It can be difficult to find parking, and sometimes people can be a little rude for my liking. It isn't even a New York City, tough guy rude, it's like a stuck up rude, seemingly that's the attitude from Atlanta on down.

 

I’d be looking more towards Jax, or west Florida around Pensacola if you have options for moving back. I’m a lifelong resident of central Florida, Citrus and Marion county and if I ever get the chance to leave there’s no way in heck I’d ever come back. As stated earlier, the population boom is mind numbing, and winter haven is no exception. The traffic alone is enough to drive me insane, plus the I don’t give a dang mentality of the new “residents”. It’s not the Florida I grew up in, sad really.

Oh yeah for truck drivers, it definitely sucks. Even if I didn't drive for a living, I don't think I'd ever live there. Florida has beauty, but not much inside. I see a scenario where it could be difficult to succeed there. Take away tourism, the United States might be a 49 state country.

 

In my opinion the best trucking opportunities for OTR, I'd say are east of Kansas City, and anywhere in between Chicago and Atlanta, I-80 and I-20, east of I-35. I may even extend to Denver because there are decent companies in the Denver .

Usually any medium-sized town near where 2 or more interstate highways cross will likely have more trucking opportunities than a medium-sized city only along side an interstate highway. Freight comes from people and is shipped to people so small population locations have less opportunities than places with more people. Interstate highways crossing usually means more population and freight lanes along the whole path of those highways. Think of the things living in that one town would provide, if you did it. It's likely not the only place in the country with those things. Once you think of the 4-10 other places with those things choose the one that has the best/most opportunities. Of course, you only need one job, so a good job is attractive, even if it's rare. I wouldn't move and hope to find the job. I'd find the job in one of the suitable locations and move to that location, but I tend toward being overly cautious. Others do things differently.
