Two weeks ago truck started to losing coolant with no signs of leak. Now power steering level is over maximum and I have code for air dryer malfunction. I think that steering fluid is mixed with coolant. What can be the problem?
Just wow. I can't see the power steering reservoir being connected to anything. Mystery coolant leak could be EGR cooler cracked. Head gasket cracked. Or since your getting air dryer code, coolant going into compressor. But why the PS would be over flowing is just weird. Take it to shop, a Volvo shop, before it's too late.
Lol. my d13 eats coolant at high revs. After some research I was under the impression that I may have a blown headgasket, seems to be handled in hand with combustion gases in coolant. However at my last pm they discovered diesel in my oil pan. like a lot. 4 hours of troubleshooting led to more questions than answers. no leaking injectors, dyed fuel, nothing foundo. So in closing, all I can say is keep an eye on it and keep us informed, maybe you will find something I haven't
i think it could be the compressor causing this though 1 how much coolant are you using 2 is there any water in the air tanks 3 is the power steering oil level still rising and is it contaminated
I'm using about 1 gallon a week. Yes, there is always water in air tanks. Yes, level is raising. On dealership they found that EGR valve is failed and EGR cooler blocking.
$1200. Its a common failing in D13. The injector cups will have to be resealed at some point as well, if they haven't already, then your good to go. Water in tanks could be if you drive in a wet / humid region. During summer back east I'd get gallons out of mine. Please tell us what the power steering fluid rising is from when it gets figured out.
to be honest if your air dyer is working properly you should have very little water in the tanks in the case of i-shift if the water goes inside it it goes haywire so if your getting water make sure you drain it regularly, does the water out air tanks look or smell like coolant, does the power steering look contaminated ''could be diesel''
After 4 days at dealership they've changed: EGR valve Injector cups Air dryer housing Cleaned EGR cooler Drain and fill power steering fluid Truck is still losing coolant, sometimes is at minimum and when I turn off engine it is at middle. There is no water in air tanks anymore. But power steering fluid is rising again. (I told them that something happen because it's rising by itself and their advice was DO NOT OVERFILL. I repeat them that I've nevere put fluid in steering reservoir but they don't believe me). Now is above the maximum.
