DD13,ISX12, MX13, Maxxforce 13

    I have been poking around the internet and various sites trying to find out which engine "at present time" is the one that i should go with in a new truck. Now I am not running a tractor like most of you on the site,I have dump trucks. So good MPG while it would be nice to have really isn't in the cards for me. In the past i have been pretty much a pete & international, cat & cummins fleet. However, i believe it is time for a change. I am open to any engine, any make. trying to find out who has had the best luck with the DD13, maxx force 13, ISX12 and the mx13. I am pretty sure the maxx force is already ruled out but any insight would be appreciated.

    DD13 only decent engine out of those. Then there is also Volvo/Mack.

    Maxforce is already ruled out as you stated, which is a smart decision in my opinion. As V8Lenny stated DD13 is a good engine I drove one and loved it but that was in a daycab. I do not know how it will work in a dump truck operation. Just my opinion

    Been a while since I dealt with Cummins but I'd take them HANDS DOWN over the Detroit. Without a question.

    The newer Detroit isn't what most think either. I oversee maintenance on quite a few of them (couple hundred) and I'd not buy one.

    A DD13 has rating up to 470 horsepower with 1650 torque, higher than the base DD15 I am driving.

    All are lighter weight engines, the SCR seems to be the best(least trouble) with the Detroits. I drove one with a DD13 in a day cab just a little while, it ran better than the DD15,and the company later sent it after a load of poultry, which is heavy and hard pulling, and it did OK from what that driver told me.

    I haven't been around the smaller ISX much, The Maxxforce is being changed to include SCR, and the PACCAR MX should also be getting better.

    Comes down to dealer support especially if you are running in a certain area.

    Just relaying my experience. Couple hundred new Detroits, (about 300) total of 1200 power units (2005 thru units that came of the line yesterday). 50 Maxforce units. Those have been trouble free. Pre-lawsuit units.

    I look over every maintenance invoice on each and every one of those trucks. Approve or argue most of them. Detroit hasn't "won" me as a fan in the least.

    Prior experience was with CAT and Cummins at the dealership level. Much preferred working with the CAT folks. Maybe it was my local rep but he sure helped the average trucker a lot more than others would it seemed.
