I have orientation set up with Werner on Wednesday which I plan on attending. But I have a job interview for Fastenal tomorrow. Werner would be Dollar general and I'm ok with that. I like working out so that will be good. Actually both jobs unload so that's a plus for. I already know the pros and cons for dedicated accounts and stuff. I have one month experience and would just like to get opinions about the companies. Fastenal I applied for a CDL OTR being out 1-2 weeks which I'm fine. Been there done that. But there may be an opportunity for a home daily position. I believe driving a straight box. Just don't know the specifics on their pay until tomorrow. Werner will give me home time weekly. Just wanted to get some thoughts from my fellow truckers out there. Thanks in advance
Volunteering to put the biggest truck/trailer you've ever driven into a store with no truck parking & 4-wheelers littered in your way is not something I would volunteer for. Read some of the horror stories about the various "dollar store" dedicated accounts. Numerous reports of going from green to fired in a few weeks/months due to several "accidents". Just my opinion.
Check out the pay specifics with Fastenal before making a final decision. Seems like it's a better deal for someone in the reserves. Fastenal employees sure look better than those Dollar General types.
There is search box at the top of the page. Type Fastenal. Also, driving a box truck isn't going to look very good on your CDL-A resume.
Dollar stores and dollar generals are very low priced places that are rather difficult to get into. There are a dozen around me unfortuantely. I usually see a werner try to aim his truck at the side dock across a divided highway plus a parking lot with cars flowing around him while he is docking. It's not always something to look foward to. If they give you a box truck with no trailer, all is well. You will get into many places have more work than you can shake a stick at.
Ty, im not familiar with that company. Frankly I wonder if the box truck song is being seductive. Does that make sense? Something a recruiter might sing to a recruit nervous about condos and 53's
All very good replies. I understand it won't count on my CDL resume. Trying to find the a great company that fits my family needs first. If I was offered a $70,000 a year salary desk job I would take that. Straight box or van trailer doesn't matter to me. I applied to a OTR van driver position so that's what I'm expecting. I just stated that they have straight box and sprinter vans(forgot to add that) so the opportunity to be home every day is appealing it just depends on the pay. According to their website they don't have D.C. in Florida closest one is GA but I believe that could outdated. Backing into those dollar accounts is tough but those accidents come from people not taking their time or not utilizing GOAL. Hell in a big ### parking lot I do it lol. Off to the interview I go. I will come back and update you guys on how it goes and more info on their company. Thanks for all the replies. Stay safe
