    Greetings,

I am a 30+ year O/O and I just purchased a NEW 2020 Freightliner Coronado Glider with a FACTORY REMAN SERIES 60 14L. I just hit the 1500 mile mark and I’m noticing substantial “wet stacking on the driver’s side exhaust at the lower elbow/joint. I am concerned that the builder may not have broke in properly. Its a first class shop (Harrison) but I know these early issues tend to manifest into major catastrophes after the warranty is out, of course. Lol. Additionally, she’s drinking fuel like a pirate drinks rum. The ambient temperature is sub-zero so I'm also concerned about getting it hot enough. Ive always keep idling to an absolute minimum and NEVER “flat idle (I run a tripac).

I have always been a Cat guy but my last 12.7 (bought used) was amazing in every way so I opted for the DD Series 60 14L DDEC IV (pre-egr) on this go around. Of course I will consult with the builder tomorrow but I would love a multitude of opinions from technicians who KNOW THIS ENGINE!

    Thanks Guys (and Girls)!

Its pretty normal for the first few thousand miles. It should quit. Limit idle.

It’s normal alright. Might even see some oil out of the stacks sometimes. Usually around the turbo, and exhaust components. Fuel mileage may not increase till rings are properly seated. Might take 70k miles. I just had mine done, it didn’t do it, but last one did, pretty bad for the first 3-4000 miles. I’ve got 29k on mine now. Fuel mileage is terrible. Should jump up 1 mpg around 70k, then run an overhead. It’s been running too cool in this weather also. I thought a thermostat was stuck open. Just my new radiator doing it’s job. Going to block my radiator off. Needs heat to seal rings.

Change the oil soon. I’ve always heard 5000 miles, I did mine at 6000. Then again at 10. Wish I would have done it much sooner, judging by all the metal shavings found on drain plug. I’ve also let it idle a lot more than I’d like. Already getting some blowby. Hoping I can still get it broke in good. Mines a 12.7, but same principles apply.
