One dead in I-70 crash in St. Peters

    ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH
    12/13/2007

A woman who was killed on Interstate 70 after a truck rear-ended her minivan Thursday night has been identified as Lisa A. Obannon, 45, of Maryland Heights.

The crash also seriously injured two people in the minivan -- Erin A. Obannon, 12, and William M. Obannon, 45, the Missouri Highway Patrol said.

Shortly before 8 p.m. Thursday, Lisa Obannon was driving a 2005 Dodge Caravan east in the center lane of I-70, the patrol said. A tractor-trailer was behind her.

Lisa Obannon stopped to avoid another accident, but the truck driver wasn't able to stop in time. He rear-ended Obannon's minivan.

The crash happened just east of the Cave Springs Boulevard exit. All eastbound lanes of I-70 from Cave Springs to Zumbehl Road were closed for about four hours.

This is a family that lives maybe 1 mile from us. What this story doesn't include is an update. The little girl, Erin, went to our elementary school and who is in middle school now, is being taken off life support this evening. She has 1 older brother, who happens to be a friend of my son's from our High School. The boy, in 24 hours, has lost his mom and his sister. The father is in critical condition still, but hopefully will pull through.
The boy was following his parents in his own car not far behind and saw the whole thing.
Please say a few prayers for this family, especially that boy. He's going to need them.
And PLEASE...everyone keep your eyes on the road and plenty of distance in front of you. This is a tragedy that might have been preventable.

    sad story:biggrin_25513:

but please dont try and blame a trucker, i dont know if you have ever drove, but they dont stop like a mini van.

maybe he didnt have anywhere to go, being in the middle lane there could have been cars/trucks on each side of him so instead of taking out a dozen cars , he just tried to stop...

Oh no....I'm truly NOT blaming the trucker...just thought this would be a good time for a reminder for EVERYONE...4 wheelers AND rigs! I'm not here to judge. ;)

(and no, I've never driven...I don't think I have enough nerves left to even try it!!! LOL!)

Police Searching For Driver In Crash That Killed Maryland Heights Woman
    Created: 12/14/2007 12:08:54 PM
    Last updated: 12/14/2007 1:42:13 PM

KSDK - Police Friday continued to search for a man who caused a series of crashes that killed a Maryland Heights woman on Interstate 70.

Police say 25-year-old Joshua Logsdon of St. Charles was driving a pick-up truck on the entrance ramp from Cave Springs Road onto I-70. They say Logsdon tried to pass another vehicle on the ramp, but ended up in the grassy median. His pick-up truck then careened onto I-70, hitting two vehicles before coming to a stop.

As those vehicles were stopped on I-70, a minivan carrying William, Lisa and Erin O'Bannon stopped on the highway to avoid the accident. A tractor-trailer behind their minivan couldn't stop, slamming into the minivan.

Lisa O'Bannon, 45, was killed. William, 45, and Erin, 12, were seriously injured.

One person was hurt in the first accident, suffering minor injuries.

Police say Logsdon ran away after the crashes.

The crashes happened just before 8 p.m. Thursday night.

Well that was a terrible situation, that is for sure. But isn't the professional truck driver supposed to keep a safe following distance? I know that is hard to do sometimes, but still... I guess though i don't know if the minivan moved over in front of the truck or if they had both been there or what those circumstances were.
But, at any rate, this is a terrible thing.:biggrin_25513:

Traffic around St. Louis has regular rush hours with the slowdowns and congestion, the rest of the time traffic moves and some people drive badly, you have to watch out for all of these idiots and the other drivers reacting to them.

What happened is a tragedy, and tragic events happen nearly every day somewhere. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the survivors and victims of this accident.
