Just seems to be NO questions about logs anymore or I am not reading the post right.
With the new hours of service changes I would "think" there would be many questions.
Is there no one with credibiltiy to answer the questions anymore? If so maybe it will make me come back and live here again :)
    Let me know!
I know there has been many misleading information out there about electronic logs and new hours of service and I can help with both :)
I know I appear and disappear but plz make me reapppear and I might stay :)

Alright, here we go. Explain the split sleeper berth to me :biggrin_25517:. I keep looking at it and every time I think I have it figured somebody tells me different, but I never know who is right or wrong. Looking at the gooberment website and reading the regs my eyeballs roll over backwards and I am just getting more confused. I know there is the 8hrs in the sleeper that will stop my 14.

Lets use an example here. I start my day at 8:00am with a 15min pretrip than I drove for 3hrs. Now I take 8hrs in the sleeper berth. My 14 hr clock stopped and I have 8 more hours to drive left. After that I will have to take 2 hrs off duty or in the sleeper.

Do I have a full eleven available or can I go only 3hrs since I did that before my 8hrs in the sleeper berth and I have to follow that same pattern? Would I have to take a full 10 to get my 11hrs driving time back?

Next question can you start out with the 2hrs off duty and reverse the order?

Thanks for the help with that.

Let me help you. If you take an 8 hour, you only get back what you did not work. Lets say you drove for 5.5 hours, did a 15 minute PTI, got down the road and later 15 min fuel, you've burned 6 hours. 5.5 of drive and the rest on duty. Take an 8 hr sleeper, and you've got 5.5 to drive plus whatever on duty you didn't use. You should only use split sleeper when its an absolute must. You can take a 2 hour break then and gain your 14 minus what you used. It's confusing as hell. If you're going to take an 8, you might as well stay for another 2 hours and gain everything back.

coming at it from the opposite end is the most helpful
say off duty 3 hours at a shipper drive down the road 3 hours
take 8 hours sleeper berth you have your 11 back

    joseph1135 and vikingswen Thank this.

did you change your handle? I recognize the picture, but the name looks different. Maybe it fits better? :biggrin_25520:

That is exactly the part I am trying to figure out.

Here is my log I was flagged for the other day.

    15:00 - 15:15 Pre trip Line 4
15:15 - 15:30 drove from Salinas to Castroville Line 2
15:30 - 15:45 check in at Ocean Mist Line 4
    15:45 - 22:15 waiting/ loading Line 1
22:15 - 03:00 drove from Castroville to Willows Line 2
    03:00 - 11:00 Sleeper berth Line 3

Do I get my 11 and 14 hour clock back at 11:00 or do I only get the 5hrs drive time back? I thought I was good after the 8hrs in the sleeper, but was told I could only drive for the 5hrs again.

    Thanks for the help guys.

Me too. but sometimes there are only 24hrs in a day. It is like the proverbial 10lbs of fecal matter that you are trying to pack in the 5lbs bag. :biggrin_2554:
