Directions or routing from Carlisle to Altavista VA

Can anyone tell me the best way from Carlisle to Altavista VA? Looks like lots of skinny roads. Thanks

 

I-81 SB to I-64 EB to U.S. Route 29 SB to Alta Vista.Good truck route. If you do not use 64, you can take 460 near Roanoke to 29 . Caution - A lot of the roads between 81 and 29 are truck length restricted.

Roanoke 460 to 29s is 4 lanes. you'll even pass a few fuel stops on the way down 29

 

Is that shorter than straight down 29?
