Been looking at a few of the companies that everyone steers clear of (Werner, USA Truck, Swift, etc...kinda aiming at USA Truck atm)...but I've been out of work since June. I've put my app/resume in at like 40 different places. No one is hiring and if they do its for like McDonald's. I have a 2 year degree in computer networking. But it's got me no where around where I live (Maryville, TN). I'm 33 and not getting any younger. I used to drive back in the military but that's been years ago, so I'm pretty much starting over.

Do any of the CDL mills, pay for your lodging? I mean it should be obvious that if I gotta come to you with a loan agreement to work for a year to pay back the money...chances are I can't afford 2-3 weeks in a hotel either. I mean, I can sleep out in my Trailblazer if I need to, as long as I have access to a bathroom somewhere to clean up. But I doubt they'd allow me to camp out in my civilian car.

I believe that Swift puts the cost of the motel onto your loan. It use to be automatically included in the price but due to so many "locals" not needing the motel they seperated it. It's still 4 to a room though from what I've been told.

I'd suggest calling the recruiting office and asking. That way you get the current info. Good luck in your new career!

C.R. England does included in price; Swift extra, but will finance (never heard of the 4 to a room thing); Consolidated Refridgeration does included in price.

Don't know about the others that you mentioned.

I would check into that to verify, I know in San Antonio that Swift is using a private company for training and lodging at a hotel. Never heard of a hotel with bunk beds. Further, I never heard of me financing a hotel with bunk beds. Some things are just not going to happen.

I'm simply saying what I was told by the students who stayed in the motel. I was local so I stayed at home. It certainly could have changed and it's certainly different location to location. That's why I suggested calling the recruiter.

I guess the reason I'm asking here is because..a recruiter can tell ya anything..and then use 'ignorance is bliss' later on as a scape goat. So I was mainly asking the ones who've been through it, where they slept. And if it was paid for. I've been to individual sites of these companies but they never say they cover everything in the fees. And I'm one of those that sides with "if don't specifically say it, they probably don't do it" type of mentality.

I'm dirt poor..and that's probably an insult to dirt. Luckily my wife makes enough to see us through. But its paycheck to paycheck...can't save anything.

Ive been talking to a recruiter for swift. She has sent me all the info on Millington, TN location. The hotel is 500.00 "loan". Its seperate from the tuition for the school. It comes out of your pay at a rate of 23.00 a wk for 6 months. You have to get your CDL permit before you go since you are in the same state as Millington. You have to do you DOT physical before you go also. You will pay for your own food while there and yes its 4 to a room.

    Texas-Nana Thanks this.
