Do DAC records go back 20 years or more?

I drove for a little over 3 years from 1987 -1991. Most of that time was with 1 large (unnamed) company which I left in early '91. Then I got a little flaky that year and drove for 4 companies in quick succession with none of those jobs lasting for more than a couple of months. Finally I tried one last company in '92 and quit after a couple of months and then quit driving altogether. Recently, I have been wanting to get back into OTR driving and believe my flakiness is a thing of the past and I could be a good solid driver like I was for the first 3 years of my driving experience. So my questions are: 1) Until recently I had never heard of a DAC Report since it didn't exist 20 years ago, so I want to know if they would have records of my driving and job experience from the late 80s to early 90s, and 2) would major companies that I worked for back then still have employment records on me? Believe it or not, I am considering applying to two companies that I worked for briefly back in that flake period so I'm hoping they would not have any records of me since 20 years have passed. By the way, I'm not worried about my driving record as I never had any accidents or serious incidents during my previous OTR days and have a clean driving record now. I know since it's been so long I need to start out as if I have never driven a truck and go back to school and get my CDL again etc. Any help in answering my questions is greatly appreciated! :biggrin_255:

I just ran mine and they have my licensing info all the way back to my first CDL in Utah (1995) but don't have my employer for that first year.
The info on my next employer (97-02) was minimal with no specifics (accidents, eligible for rehire, etc) with a notation that that employer no longer participates in the survey. Odd, because after a leave of absence I returned to them and DAC has that info for them from 2002/07.
If you've got a few spare bucks, run your own dac (now done by "hireright") and then you can be comfortable with your next application (trucking companies only ask for the mandatory 10 previous years employment history) having info that jibes with the DAC. I got mine thru dotjobhistory.com ($40) and paid an extra $10 for my PSP report. I guess you'd have to still remember what your CDL license number was and then there's a chance it would just come back blank as inactive if it's not current. good luck!

You can get a free copy directly from HireRight. Look for the Services & Solutions section on the main page. Click on the link that says "HireRight DAC Trucking." Then on the right-hand side of the page click on the button that says CDL Driver DAC Report Request.

You can get one free report per year and when you get your report there will be an 800 number where you can speak with a customer service representative by phone. They will actually call you before they process the request to verify your identity and the legitimacy of the report request.

After 7 years all it says is you worked for company x. No other info is included.

I was using DAC in 1991 and they had been around for quite a while already. Not everyone uses hire-rite and I doubt there is that much on yours though stuff too old to bother the insurance man did often show up on the DAC of older, experienced, applicants.

They have to operate like a Credit Bureau [the same Federal regs apply] so you can get a free report, check your self out!
