Do tractors bobtailing have to enter the state scales?

I was curious as we have all bobtail without a trailer but do we have to enter the state scales as obviously we have no trailer and aren't loaded

 

Don't most weigh stations require any vehicle over 10,000 pounds to come in?
Is your bobtail less than 10k? Doubtful.

Most states yes, a few states no.
Just depends on what the state wants. Most are all CMV's. A few are all CMV over x weight rating. A couple are all vehicles over x weight rating.

 

Just do what the signs say at that particular scale. If sign says all trucks must enter then there’s your answer.

It doesn’t make any more sense than pulling onto the scale with an empty flatbed, but I do it all the time. LOL

 

I read any truck with a DOT#, has to stop. This includes rental trucks, as well. When I moved to Co. from Wis., I rented the smallest UHaul truck, a van front and small box type, I checked into that before leaving Wis. and while most states won't bother with a rental truck, Neb. was wide open at 2 am, and I wasn't the only rental truck in line. If you have nothing to hide, I'd pull in, even though, they probably won't stop you, unless there's an obvious safety issue, but just try and run by one.

 

Florida will chase down rental box trucks if they don’t pull in the scale.
I’ve seen it happen a lot.

 

Bobtail your still a cmv so YES

 

IMO a good rule of thumb with any CMV or box vehicle is to pull in. Worst case they wave you through and are a bit annoyed.

 

I always enter unless told otherwise. 99% of the time you’ll just get waived through. The only time I wasn’t was when a cop wanted to take a quick peak at my hours of service and that took literally 30 seconds
