Does Company DOT Physical Replace CDL School Physical if Less Favorable?

I may be overlooking this information, but I didn't see it in the threads I reviewed.

When I began CDL school I completed a DOT physical and was issued a 2 year medical card. In a scenario where the company you choose to work for requires a new DOT physical prior to hire, does the more recent physical always trump the former as far as the DMV is concerned? For instance, what if someone's blood pressure on the school physical was within the range for a 2 year card but was within the range for a 1 year card when they completed the physical prior to hiring on with a company? In this example, it would be less favorable, but obviously that scenario could be reversed if the initial card was a 1 year card but the BP had improved to within the 2 year range.

Are all DOT physicals automatically provided to the DMV?

I don't have an actual situation, but I am just curious how this works.

The new physical always over rides your med card.you take physical the firwithst day of orientation with their doctor.so you must use their med card.physicals are not automatic with the DMV,you or your company must register physical with your DMV.

So using my scenario above, if the potential employee or the potential employer stop the process prior to employment, are you saying that it would be as if that physical never occurred?

The last DOT physical is the one that counts. For example you go to Dr. X and have a DOT physical and get a 2 yr card then start with Trucking Inc adn have nother DOT physical from Dr. Y adn get a 1 yr card due to your Blood Pressure, it doe not matter what happens after the physical for Dr. Y that is the one that is now valid and yoou must register it with the DMV of your state.

If your blood pressure is running high, you might try cutting the coffee for a day or so prior to taking your new physical. You could buy an inexpensive blood pressure cuff at Harbor Freight for about $15. Most any drug store should also carry them. Getting some exercise and losing weight can also help lower your BP. If that doesn't do it and you don't want to get on BP meds, go to vitamin store like Vitamin Shoppe or Vitamin World and buy some Hawthorne Berry Extract. It is a natural herb that will lower your blood pressure in a few days. Drinking a lot of water will also help lower your blood pressure. You could also take some niacin with the Hawthorn Berry. I prefer natural herbs to synthetic medications. With the herbs, you don't have the side effects. But, if your bp is running on the high side, you should be monitoring it yourself.

G/Man, Thanks for the info, and it may be helpful to someone who reads this thread or perhaps to me in the future. I wasn't asking because of my BP. I was just using that as an example. I just wasn't sure how the process works, and I heard some discussion about the physicals during CDL school and had read some discussion on here also. I am just trying to gain an understanding of the dynamics involved for future reference.

I am glad you don't have high blood pressure. Some carriers want your physical to be no more than 6 months old. Others will have new recruits to go through their own physical. But, it is always the last physical that is the most important.

nope, not saying that.lets say you went to Werner, you would take their physical and if you pass you use that med card and issue it with the DMV.otherwise if you fail their physical you can still use your old med card as long as it's registered with the DMV.if u get a med card from Werner and quit after a couple months that card is still valid.

    As a related FYI

Whenever you go for a Medical Cert, ask about the blood pressure test results, especially if they attempt to try and issue a ONE year medical. Many of these BP gadgets are far from accurate and many are very inconsistent, especially if not administered just so-so.

If they try and tell you your BP results are borderline, make them do it again with another cuff and another individual. Many of these places don't give a crap about their job or your job, and don't consider that possibly their testing devices and/or technique may be minimally or severely flawed.

I suspect many are getting 1 year certs unfairly and only because they did not contest or question the ONE flawed test administered.
