I was told this week that the driver facing cameras will be deactivated upon logon, if you have a good driving record.
I guess the only way to know for sure is taping the lense.

you can tape the lense, only if it is disabled, that is, you know it is disabled because they disable it because you have a good driving record, and don't damage the equipment, says Greg Koepel

Roehl has really annoying driver facing cameras, and ARE invading the driver's privacy.

That said, these darned things are eventually gonna wind up in all company trucks industry wide. Lawyers love'em, Insurance wonks love'em, and office bean counters love'em.

I have said in the past a driver facing cam would be my line in the sand. Unfortunately, financial reality stood up and bit me right in the behind! I can't afford to quit the industry as a whole, and I really like the company I drive for. We are a smaller outfit, I know everybody from the President down to the newest rookie dispatcher (don't think we even HAVE a janitor!), I like the freight, most of the customers, and the steady, regular paychecks.

I ain't gonna get rich driving here, but I have far, FAR less BS to put up with than I had at any other carrier. A Lytx DriveCam is the price I pay for all the other benefits I get. I've had the darned thing for two weeks now, been through major cities and back roads, clear roads and crap roads. I have yet to set the bloody thing off. Maybe its just my driving? Regardless, this particular camera has not become the privacy invading PITA I was scared of. I ignore it, it ignores me, we go on with the day.

Could also be a sensitivity setting, too. We have good drivers. These cameras were a requirement of the (newish) parent company.

though he said the driver facing camera would be disabled for drivers with good driving record, but made no mention about the microphone inside the cab, I wonder if it would be disabled as well

As a recuiter at Roehl here is our official stance on inward facing recorders; we will only activate them for drivers with repeated issues or drivers who are hired with questionable safety records. After 90 days of safe driving the inward camera will be eligible to be deactivated at that time.

I'm sure most of you guys already know this but (ours at least) they are not designed to spy on you, our FMs do not have the capacity to look in on you at any time. We are only sent the moments prior to an event and the moments proceeding it. More often than not the camera inside is crucial to proving a driver was not driving 'innattentively' or to defend a losing a court battle because the jury is already you're guilty based on a prior cell phone ticket conviction - things like that can and do happen!

Anyhow if anyone is interested to know more about Roehl call me @ 715-591-7212
or head to roehl.jobs to apply

Yes all Roehl trucks have driver facing cameras in them. You can hang your favorite football teams ball cap over the camera or you can put a piece of tape over it.

I’m at Roehl currently but not much longer. There turnover rate is over 80% and the reason why is micro management and low pay. Please do yourselves a favor and stay away. They are as bad as the big uglies but with video cameras watching you all the time and yes watch you all the time is what they do. I have a spotlessly clean Saftey record and my FM is always showing me videos of me for the stupidest things.
